Conor Kenna of St Patrick's Athletic has been selected as the Airtricity/Soccer Writers' Association Player of the Month for March. The announcement was made this morning at Richmond Park, the home of St Patrick's Athletic in Inchicore, Dublin 8.
Sporting Fingal manager Liam Buckley has been named the Aviva/Soccer Writers' Association of Ireland Personality of the Year at the Association's Golden Jubilee Banquet and Annual Awards night at the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin.
Buckley, 49, wins the award for the first time, beating off competition from fellow managers Paul Cook of Sligo Rovers, Bohemians' Pat Fenlon and Michael O'Neill of Shamrock Rovers as well as two players; Shamrock Rovers' Gary Twigg and Raffaele Cretaro, who has recently completed a move from Sligo Rovers and Bohemians.
Pat Fenlon is in contention to be named as the Soccer Writers' Association of Ireland Personality of the Year for the third time in six years. The Bohemians boss is one of six nominees for the prestigious award which will be presented at the Aviva SWAI Annual Banquet in Dublin on Friday January 15. Three of Fenlon's managerial counterparts Michael O'Neill, Paul Cook and Liam Buckley are also short-listed, as are strikers Gary Twigg of Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers' Raffaele Cretaro.
Conan Byrne of Sporting Fingal is the Soccer Writers' Association of Ireland Player of the Month for November.
Byrne is the first Fingal player to win the award and the first First Division recipient of the award since Conor Gethins of Finn Harps in November 2007.
The 24-year-old scored twice in five appearances during the month to bring his overall tally for the season to 27 in all competitions.
